The Fight For the Throne

... is over.

Succession at the Walt Disney Company became clearer on Thursday as Thomas O. Staggs, chairman of Disney’s theme park operation, beat out a rival to become the entertainment conglomerate’s No. 2 executive. The move makes him the favorite to succeed Robert A. Iger as Disney’s chief executive.

Mr. Staggs will take on the title of chief operating officer, Disney said. “Tom is an incredibly experienced, talented and versatile executive,” Mr. Iger said in a statement.

Mr. Staggs added, “I am humbled and honored by the opportunity.”

The company said he would continue to lead the theme parks operation until a successor was named.

It was unclear what would become of James A. Rasulo, the company’s chief financial officer, who has been waging a quietly intense race with Mr. Staggs to succeed Mr. Iger when he retires in June 2018. Mr. Rasulo’s contract expired at the end of January. ...

The NYT is being polite with the "unclear" thing.

James Rasulo will now slip away to spend more time with his family. Or Fox-News Corp. Or some other biggish company.
